I'm Busy Fixin' THE FIX, So… Ask Me Anything?

(NOTE: Based on time elapsed since the posting of this entry, the BS-o-meter calculates this is 10.854% likely to be something that Ferrett now regrets.)

Right now, on my laptop, I have a book that is not quite yet awesome.
I have six weeks to inject all the awesome into it.
So every night after work, I am descending into the basement to bash my skull against my laptop for four hours, attempting to end the family ‘Mancer saga in a way that honors everyone in it.  But that leaves me little time for thinkin’ about blog posts in the evening, which is when I usually write these suckers.
So!  As is tradition here every four months or so, ask me a real question I can answer, that you’d like to know the answer to. On any topic: novel or kink or bees or otters. I’ll do my best to answer honestly.
(Fake questions like “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck?” are neither clever nor useful. You can do it; it marks you as the kind of person who doesn’t realize the joke is so obvious it’s been done a hundred times before, and I’ll think less of you for being tedious. Hey, I told you I’d answer honestly.)
(And the bees are alive last we checked, but we have become bee-havers, not bee-keepers, and as such they’re pretty much on their own.  Two years of cancer pretty much pounded our beekeeping out of us, alas.)
Anyway.  Ask!

How did you decide on the articles in your titles? “Flex” but “THE Flux” and “THE Fix”?

That was Angry Robot. The idea of THE FLUX is that it would help fans distinguish between the two books – but no, people still get confused all the time. They have decided (with some input from me) that it’s FIX, but that header looked weird without a The in front of it.

    1) Did you look and see it fanfiction of your “mancer” series exists? (I know you’re not supposed to read it, but I figured you’d be interested in knowing of its existence)
2)does fanfiction of Flex and The Flux exist?
3)What are your feelings about it and if you have the space, on fanfiction in general as it applies to your work?

      1) I’m told there’s one piece of fanfic out there, and you emailed me to ask about Asia, but I’ve never gone looking.
      2) Unknown. I’d be thrilled if it did.
      3) Fanfiction doesn’t apply to my work. I don’t do fanfic. But several awesome writers do, and my best friend at Clarion cut her teeth on fanfic and it gave her very sharp prose. And if someone wants to play in my universe, that’s wonderful.

Have you read, or more specifically, experienced Judith Schalansky’s Atlas of Remote Islands: 50 Islands I Have Never Visited and Never Will? Well, you should, it’s a gem! Well, this wasn’t really a question. Love your Flex and the Flux, can’t wait to find out what happens next. I have high expectations for Imani, she has a good heart. Greetings from Finland! Hope to see you in Aug 2017! 🙂
