The Usual Christmas Post, Part 2: So What's Your Favorite Gift?

(NOTE: Based on time elapsed since the posting of this entry, the BS-o-meter calculates this is 16.884% likely to be something that Ferrett now regrets.)

Because I want to know: What’s the best thing you got for Christmas this year?
My answer is anticipatory, since my Mom went in with me so we could afford to get a new, king-sized bed.  But said bed will not arrive until next Friday.  So for right now I’ll say it’s the 14″ crash cymbal my Dad got me, since I wasn’t anticipating any cymbal on a year that’s very lean for everybody, and now I’ll be able to play drums in more style.  (Though I also did get a universal remote that Gini spent a lot of time researching, which should be awesome.)
Merry, merry Christmas! So what made you happiest under the tree this holidays?

My favourite gift this year wasn’t one that I received. It was one that I gave. My wife’s grandmother is 93 this year. This means my son still has a living great-grandmother. She is English, Blue-Blood, and sufficiently all-American that I’m certain she is a member of the “Mothers of the American Revolution”
She only ruffled a whole lot when she discovered her Granddaughter (who was inflicted carry her grandmother’s name) was marrying a Jew.
The woman was never directly mean to me; but I really was never family. My mother-in-law suggested that “Grandma” might like some pictures of her great-grandson.
I went to iPhoto and made a book of pictures of the boy. Grandma has been unable to put down the book and has been thanking me non-stop as her favorite present.
Gives me a nice warm fuzzie 🙂
